The benefits of liquid Food Safe products in the production process
In food production, every detail counts: from raw material to end product. The use of Food Safe products, such as ingredients and technical aids, is essential. Think of products that help with preservation, texture formation, flavour development and pH regulation. Although these products are often used in powder form, more and more producers are consciously opting for a liquid variant. This choice is no coincidence: liquid Food Safe products offer clear advantages in terms of processing, safety and accuracy.
Food SafePartner in FoodProtecting & preservingIngredient or technical aid?
Food Safe products can play a role in the production process/dairy process in two ways: as an ingredient or technical aid. In both cases, a safe, accurate and user-friendly application is essential. Ingredients are a functional part of the end product, such as a preservative or pH regulator with an E number. Technical aids support the process, but are not or hardly present in the end product.
Why choose liquid?
Adding a powder to a liquid product – such as soups, sauces or drinks/milk, cream or whey – brings challenges. Lumping, dust development and inaccurate dosing are known risks. A liquid variant helps to avoid these challenges:
- Better solubility
Liquids mix more easily with other liquids, which greatly reduces the chance of lumps.
- Less dust formation
Powders can release dust particles into the air, with risks of inhalation or allergic reactions. Liquid variants limit this exposure.
- Accurate dosing
With liquids it is easier to dose more accurately, for example via dosing pumps or flow meters. This increases the reproducibility of the process.
From powder to liquid: in-house under FSSC 22000 conditions
At In2Food we understand the importance of precision, hygiene and reliability. That is why we offer various Food Safe products as liquid mixtures – in concentrations that match our customer’s process.
In our own Food Safe hall, certified at FSSC 22000 level, powders are dissolved. This creates a liquid solution that can be used directly in the production process. We do this not only for single products, but also for mixtures of salts or other additives – tailored to the customer’s wishes.
The maximum concentration that is possible depends largely on the specific product. For example, citric acid has a different solubility than sodium hexametaphosphate. In2Food is happy to think along about the achievable concentrations. Thanks to our experience with different mixtures, we can advise on this and offer solutions that are both practical and efficient.
A small selection from our Food Safe range:
- Citric acid
pH regulator and preservative. Widely applicable in dairy, fruit preparations and beverages. - Sodium Hexametaphosphate
Stabilizes proteins during processing and reduces viscosity. Prevents precipitation and helps improve texture. - Sodium hydroxide (also called caustic soda)
Suitable for pH correction and process cleaning. - Potassium sorbate
Effective preservative against molds and yeasts. Used, among other things, on cheese rinds, in brine baths and in yogurt with fruit preparation. - Calcium chloride
Promotes curdling in cheese making and contributes to the structure of the final product.
These products are available in various packaging such as IBCs, Variboxes or bulk and are produced in small to large batches, ranging in volumes from 6,000 to 30,000 litres.
The transition from powder to liquid does not have to be a drastic change. In practice, it is often a logical optimization that increases safety and processability in the production process. Liquid Food Safe products offer a well-considered solution for those who want to improve processes without compromising on quality and food safety. By working with a partner who supplies these liquid forms ready to use, adding Food Safe products becomes easier, more hygienic and more accurate.
